Back to SnippetsDismissible toast stack with bounded, polite announcements
A three-state notification stack that preserves messages until dismissal, keeps the queue bounded, and never steals focus.
HTMLCSSJavaScript
Receipt: three states, three-message cap, explicit dismissal.
What this is
Status messages should inform people, not ambush them.
Use this for secondary save confirmations, background status, or recoverable errors that also remain visible in their primary context.
Use it
- Map real application outcomes to a short title and useful next action.
- Test repeated messages, dismissal, screen-reader announcements, zoom, and a narrow viewport.
Make it yours
- Replace the message map with your application results and severity vocabulary.
- Move the region for your layout while preserving a visible, reachable dismiss action.
Reuse contract
Supported environments
- Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari
- No dependency required
Security notes
- The demo creates every node with DOM APIs and textContent; retain that boundary for untrusted messages.
- Do not use transient toasts as the only location for destructive errors or information a user must retain.
